Business cards are your introduction to the world, so ensure that your
business card gives you a good image and conveys the information you need
to give to your clients and potential clients. Minimum information is your
name, company name and as many was of contacting you as possible, including
website, email, fax number etc.
If you don't have a fax number, you can use Telexperts-The Ship Centres'
fax number - (780) 425-0329. You have access to people faxing to
you and you only pay for the faxes you receive.
If you are putting more than one phone number on your card, or you have
one phone number that serves more than one purpose, ensure your clients
know what each phone number can do. Put Tel. or Fax or Cell or Pager or
whatever purpose the phone numbers provide. It will cut down on you getting
a fax squeal in your ear and improve your communications with your clients.
Have an idea of what your budget is for your business card. If you can't
afford a lot for business cards, then make the card all text and ensure
that you create a card with a nice font and enough text to explain who and
what you are.
Use the back of the card if the front of the card does not really explain
what you do. For example, if your company is RMW Enterprises
and the front of the card doesn't say what you do, use the back of the card
to explain the product/services RMW Enterprises offers.
Run the business card through a spelling dictionary of your choice. Misteaks
are easy to make, but you need to correct the mistakes that might
be there. Remember that there are differences between a British dictionary
and an American dictionary. Labour versus Labor and similar spellings. Use
one or the other, don't mix the different spellings, using British for some
words and American for the other, as it makes the text look sloppy and either
side thinks you have mistakes in the spelling.
If you have graphics designed for you, ensure that YOU have copies of
the graphics and that you own them. Sometimes, the person who creates the
logo for you will use the logo as a way of keeping you as a client, forcing
you to stay with them in order to get additional items printed. It can be
time consuming to get the logo redone and it will usually never be the same
as the original, sometimes better the second time around, sometimes worse.
Either way, redoing a logo adds to your costs.
Finally, proof-read your business card for correct grammar. Go through
it several times, read it aloud to yourself and to someone else to see if
it sounds right. Have someone else proof-read it as well, if not several
people.
