Prepaid Long Distance Telephone Cards
On the road a lot? Have lots of family to talk to and are constantly
on the phone? Have children or parents that are a fair distance away? Cell
phone long distance charges too high?
Telexperts-The Ship Centre offers one of the largest assortments of prepaid
long distance telephone cards from several different suppliers. With such
a large selection, the cards we offer can beat or match most any card offered
by anyone else. Which is the best card on the market? There isn't a best
card, although we have one called Best Time. Each card has
an area of the world, whether a region or a particular country that it works
best with. It may be that the cost to call a particular country is so expensive
that you need to buy a larger value card to be able to spend any time on
the phone. You may want to have many shorter length phone calls, but the
various fees may make using a certain card very costly. Let us help you
find the card that is right for your needs, not which is most profitable
for the people selling you the card.
We have one card that is usable outside of North America. You can use
this card as an emergency card should you need to call home or elsewhere
around the world. Please ask us how this card works and where.
We have phone cards valued in $1.00, $2.00, $2.50, $3.00, $5.00, $6.00,
$10.00 and $20.00 increments. Choose the card that gets you about the amount
of time needed for the location you are calling. Each card comes in its
own denominations, so while one card is available in $1.00 and $2.00, another
card may only be available in $2.50, $5.00 and $10.00 cards.
You will get the most time out of any phone card by using it entirely
within a single telephone call. Restrictions on calls including connection
fees, maintenance fees, service fees, administration fees, network fees
and minute rounding means that anytime more than one call is made, you will
not get the maximum amount of time possible.
Each poster has the limitations and restrictions that affect each phone
card, detailing costs for toll-free access, payphone usage charges, what
fees apply (such as administration, service, maintenance or other fees),
and other conditions that apply to that particular prepaid phone card. These
conditions are usually in fine print at the bottom of the poster and sometimes
are difficult to understand. Ask us and we will tell you what the conditions
are and what they mean to you if you buy that particular phone card.

Prepaid Cellular Telephone Cards
We have Pay-As-You-Go cellular phone cards for Fido, Rogers and Telus.
We currently do not stock Bell cellular phone cards due to a lack of demand
for them in our area, but we can special order them in for you if you need
them. GST is added to the price of all cellular telephone cards.
Card increments for each cellular company are as follows:
- Bell: $10.00 - $25.00 (Note: We may not always have these cards in
stock as Bell is not as popular for local prepaid cellular service)
- Fido: $10.00 - $15.00 - $25.00 - $30.00 - (Note: These cards have a
defined expiry date so check when the card you buy will expire)
- Rogers/AT&T: $10.00 - $20.00 - $30.00 - $40.00 - (Note: These cards
have a defined expiry date so check when the card you buy will expire)
- Telus: $10.00 - $25.00 - $50.00
We do not sell phone cards for non-Canadian based cellular companies.
Glossary
The following terms will help you understand what the fine print on the
prepaid phone card posters means. Each prepaid phone card company may of
course vary their own definition of what the term means, so this list is
not necessarily an authorative meaning for each term or for each prepaid
phone card company.
- Administration Fee: A charge for administration purposes,
or simply to remove more money from the telephone card, you choose.
- Call Increments: For some countries, they do not charge
on a minute basis but on a two, three or some other minute basis. On a
three minute call increment, a call of 2 minutes and 59 seconds rounds
up to 3 minutes, and a call of 3 minutes and 1 second rounds up to six
minutes.
- Connection Fee: A fee that is charged BEFORE you actually
connect to your phone number. If your call is ended before the phone card
is used completely, there will be another connection fee charged on each
new call. If you do not have enough money on the card for the connection
fee, the remaining value on the card is likely not recoverable.
- Expiry Date: The defined date that the phone card expires
and is no longer valid. Check the cards you buy to ensure they are used
before this date.
- First Minute Fee: Since connection fees are not popular,
some cards will say No Connection Fee on them but have this
minimum first minute fee buried in the fine print, which is similar but
different.
- GST Included: The price of the card includes GST, so
a $5.00 card sells for $5.00, not $5.35.
- Local Access Number: A local access number is the list
of phone numbers that are local to a specific are geographic area. Local
calling numbers are usually listed on the back of the phone card.
- Maintenance Fee: This is the clock that starts ticking
on the life of the prepaid phone card after first use. If there is still
money left on the card when you disconnect, then the maintenance fee gets
charged, usually right away or sometimes at midnight local or Eastern time,
and is then recharged for each period of time, which can be daily, weekly,
monthly or whatever period of time the prepaid phone company decides.
- Minute Rounding: This is the minimum call increment,
so that if you call for 2 minutes and 59 seconds, the call rounds up to
3 minutes. If you call for 2 minutes and 1 second, the call still rounds
up to 3 minutes, but you have talked for almost a minute less of time.
- Network Fee: A fee to tie into the telephone network.
This fee may vary on the country called and how the telephone call was
connected to that country.
- Overseas Cellular/Premium/Audiotext Services: Telephone
companies outside of North America charge differently and that includes
charging the caller for dialing into someone's cell phone, which will reduce
the number of minutes of time available to talk to someone. Other services
are offered and if accessed, these charges will reduce the amount of time
available to talk on the phone card.
- Public Payphone Surcharge: If you call from a public
payphone and use the toll free number on the prepaid phone card, you will
be surcharged by this amount, usually 50 cents, but potentially more. This
covers the cost of the pay phone call.
- Rates Subject To Change Without Notice: Rates can change
at any time, rendering the prices and minutes listed on the poster out
of date and therefore invalid. Telexperts-The Ship Centre always asks for
new posters when new cards are ordered, trying to keep our posters as up
to date as possible.
- Security Measures Are In Effect: This is a measure to
limit the amount of time that can be used at one time. Calls are automatically
cut off after this period of time, which is usually not posted on the poster,
but can range from sixty (60) to one hundred fifty (150) minutes (more
or less), depending on the card and/or destination you are calling to.
- Service Fee: A service fee is charged at the end of the
call, usually only if there is money left on the prepaid phone card, but
it may be calculated into the charges on the card on some prepaid phone
cards.
- Toll Free Calling: If your phone card allows for toll
free calling, this means there are no surcharges if you are not in a local
calling area. This allows you to use the phone card anywhere instead of
just in the major cities. Be aware that most cards that have this operate
on the idea that if you are in the local calling area you must use the
local calling number or you will be surcharged for using the toll free
number in a local calling area, which will reduce the number of minutes
of talk time available to you.
Please Be Aware:
All information on this page is subject to change by the phone card
company at any time and was accurate at the time it was posted. Conditions
of use of each phone card is printed on the phone card and/or on the poster
explaining the terms and conditions of use of the particular phone card.
Telexperts-The Ship Centre does not provide the telephone service indicated
and is not responsible for the use or misuse of the phone cards. Telexperts-The
Ship Centre does not accept returns of phone cards that have had their pin
